Zero Harm Commitment
The core of our culture and a commitment made at all levels, Zero Harm means placing the health, safety, and well-being of our people, communities, and the environment first. And by keeping to this actionable guide, we do right by our planet through reducing our water consumption, waste production, emissions, and more.
Climate Change and Greenhouse Gas Emissions
Recognizing and responding to the impact of climate change is no longer optional—it's necessary. We identify climate change regulations and climate-related risks, including adverse weather and natural disasters exacerbated by climate change, to take a proactive approach to preserving our future.
Environmental Regulatory Compliance and Performance
We meet or exceed all current environmental regulations. Guided by our Zero Harm promise and Responsible Care RC14001® Management System, our facilities around the world are certified to the RC14001:2015 Technical Specification, which combines Responsible Care® and ISO 14001 to comprehensively encompass safety, health, environment, and security.
We track, monitor, and review our water use, pollution, and waste generation with the goal to improve in these areas on an annual basis. We also report annually to ISS, EcoVadis, and CDP (Climate, Water, and Forests).
Koppers Floating Wetlands
In 2020, floating wetlands were installed at our facility in Newsoms, VA, significantly improving the site's water quality. From food and shelter for local fish, frogs, and invertebrates to a habitat for pollinators, waterfowl, and songbirds, benefits also include reduced water temperatures, submerged weed growth, and carbon sequestering.
